Photo Competition "Fishing Communities´ Heritage"

The aim of the CHERISH photo competition was to use the power of photography to raise awareness of the importance of heritage and traditions in fishing communities around Europe. Moreover, it was an invitation for each photographer, tourist or inhabitant to go beyond the stunning landscapes, the delicious meals and the golden beaches and discover the traditions of their holiday destination or hometown.

Atmospheric shots of fishermen and women (!), cultural handicrafts, traditional fishery boats or local festivals – the submitted pictures gave an impression of the richness, variety and importance of the cultural heritage in fishing communities, within the CHERISH partner regions: Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace (Greece), Alto Minho Coastal Area (Litoral Norte) (Portugal), Mallorca Island (Spain), Riga Planning Region coastal area (Latvia), Coastal Area of Abruzzo Region (Italy), Cyprus (Cyprus), Zeeland Province (The Netherlands) or Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany).

An international Jury selected the best photos that will be included in different publications and are part of a travelling photo exhibition around Europe.
