Energy by the Water
With the motto "Energy by the Water," schoolchildren from the Schleswig-Holstein village of Flensburg and the Danish Apenrade devoted themselves to a weeklong project on the future of our energy supply.
In conjunction with the EUCC-D project “Sea in Focus,” the students investigated a variety of topics, including the sustainability of coal power plants, what carbon capture and sequestration technology is and how well it is working, and how inadequate power grid expansion affects the expansion of wind power.
In order to gain insight, students sought out the nearest coal power plant and lead an investigation with scientific colleagues of the Flensburg municipal utilities and a representative of Greenpeace, holding discussions with politicians on the local, state, and EU level.
Further information about and results of the project can be found at www.kuestenschule.de .
