Current Projects

Since it was founded in 2002, EUCC Germany has participated in over 20 national and international projects and accompanying case studies in the field of ICZM. Regular cooperation with various research institutions enables the association to immediately reuse scientific findings. With its interdisciplinary team, EUCC Germany is involved in numerous national and international networks.

Nursecoast-II

The NURSECOAST-II project guides public authorities, water companies, and tourism businesses in mitigating the seasonal increase in wastewater production and nutrient discharges in tourist areas around the Baltic Sea.

The project FLYWAY will explore a number of different technologies that, in the future, may support and be used in conjunction with the physical bird monitoring.

CONTRA

The main objective of the project is to enable coastal authorities to adopt beach wrack management strategies that are environmentally sound and include sustainable recycling options for pollution & nutrient remediation.

HaFF

The main objective of the project is the reduction of nutrients in eutrophic coastal waters and in the wastewater of marine aquaculture facilities. This nutrient reduction is to be achieved through biomass production with vascular plants, whereby flood-tolerant species of different salt tolerance are used.

SEAPLANSPACE

The SEAPLANSPACE (marine spatial planning instruments for sustainable marine governance) project aims to enable project partners to exchange knowledge and experiences for marine planning and to develop planning concepts for their regions and to implement cross-border activities. Results of the project will be manuals for trainings, trainings and a cross-country web-portal with relevant information.

BONUS OPTIMUS

The overall goal of BONUS OPTIMUS is to provide robust evidence-based documentation (ecological, social, and economic) on optimized use of farmed mussel as a mitigation tool for eutrophication that in turn can be a sustainable protein-rich feedstuff for fish.

The Parliament of the Fish

It is commonly known that marine litter is a major global problem. Taking action directly in and on the oceans and reducing litter input coming from the land is therefore urgently necessary. This will happen not only through innovative ideas, but an enhanced awareness towards the topic within societies is important, since the global pollution of water bodies with litter is a man-made problem. The project “The Parliament Of The Fish” is an approach of the Kurtheater Bitterfeld e.V. dessau-roßlau, EUCC-D and associated partners to increase the awareness and also an attempt to motivate people to become active against the proceeding water pollution in their region.

KliWaKom

Together with the tourism association of coastal resorts in Mecklenburg (VMO) EUCC-D wants to promote climate change adaptation in coastal communities. The aim of the project KliWaKom is to analyse the demands for climate change adaptation, to develop short-term and long-term adaptation measures, and to set an example by implementing first measures in a pilot community.

BaltCoast was developed to overcome the lack of a holistic approach which integrates different human activities with ecosystems capacity and environmental forcing, therefore, BaltCoast has the ultimate objective of developing a coherent and systematic management approach that encompasses multiple impacts in a spatially heterogeneous context, by using Systems Approach Framework (SAF).

Wadden Sea Region Planning Portal

Die Wattenmeerregion ist nicht nur UNESCO Weltnaturerbe mit einer großen Vielfalt an Tier- und Pflanzenarten. Der trilateral von Dänemark, Deutschland und den Niederlanden genutzte Raum ist auch einem hohen Nutzungsdruck durch menschliche Aktivitäten wie Häfen, Schifffahrt und Energiegewinnung ausgesetzt. Um verschiedenen Interessengruppen grenzüberschreitende Daten über wirtschaftliche Nutzungen, Raumplanung und Naturschutzregelungen zur Verfügung zu stellen hat das Wadden Sea Forum e.V. gemeinsam mit EUCC-D ein innovatives Werkzeug entwickelt: das „Wadden Sea Region Planning Portal“.
